Parents Guide for
Sex and the City (2008) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

As the title suggests, there is sex in this film, and lots of it - a combination of sexual discussions and actual sex on-screen.

The lead actresses have multiple costume changes. Some of their outfits are particularly low-cut and revealing.

Homosexual behavior is seen and implied in several scenes.

A 41-year-old woman's pubic hair is visible while she is wearing a bathing suit. One of her friends makes several negative comments about it, including "Jesus, honey, wax much?"

There are about seven or eight short sex scenes in the film. The first shows thrusting and a man's bare butt. The second and ninth shows the heads of two people, and sex is implied rather than seen. The third, fourth, sixth, and eighth show a varied amount of female nudity (breasts and butt), a varied amount of male nudity (butt), and thrusting. The seventh sex scene shows the end of a sex scene, and again, it is rather implied than seen, even though there is some moaning heard in this one. The final shows a man and a woman are seen having sex. He is behind her, and you can see her breasts and a man's hand is on her vagina. Moaning is in this one as well.

Samantha sprawls across a table completely naked, as a surprise for her boyfriend when he comes home. Her private area is covered with small pieces of sushi, as are her breasts.

A pregnant woman's water breaks in public, on a sidewalk in front of a restaurant.

As for nudity, there is everything that was explained in the sex section, and two more. A woman is seen with sushi all over her naked body, but no real nudity is shown. A man is seen in the shower, and we see his butt and his penis.

A married man eats a cherry and winks at his wife from across the table in a scene at the end of the movie. It's a "blink and you'll miss it" moment, but some audiences might catch it, and it obviously has sexual implications.

Violence & Gore

There is nothing explicitly violent or gory.

Carrie whacks Big in the head multiple times with a bouquet of flowers, although there is no blood.

Samantha throws sushi at her boyfriend and screams at him when he comes home late on Valentine's Day.

Again, as in the title, there is a lot of sex-related dialogue in this film. Women discuss their sexual encounters in detail, sometimes in front of their kids.

As for cussing, there are multiple use of the f-word, and multiple other ones, including "dickwad".

A 3-year-old little girl says the word "sex" twice.

An approximately 7-year-old watches a young woman try on a wedding dress. The child tells her that it makes her "boobies" look big.

It is implied that Charlotte accidentally poops in her pants when she is having stomach problems and doesn't make it to the bathroom on time. We can hear her stomach rumbling loudly, and the squishing sound in her pants. She waddles off the screen as her friends laugh hysterically. This can be categorized as "potty humor".

Characters are seen consuming alcohol in several scenes, but it is not a main theme/focus for the movie.

Some smaller children may find Sarah Jessica Parkers face disturbing and emotionally scarring.
